The Muse New York Rooftop Beehive Above Times Square

In a city known for looking up, there is something unexpected waiting 19 floors above Times Square.

At The Muse New York, the rooftop is home to a thriving beehive, bringing urban beekeeping to one of Manhattan's most iconic neighborhoods. Created in partnership with Alvéole, the hive offers a closer look at the natural world flourishing alongside the energy of New York City.

A Living Rooftop Above Times Square

High above Midtown, thousands of honey bees have made The Muse their home.

The rooftop hive is cared for in partnership with Alvéole, an urban beekeeping company that creates bee habitats and nature-based experiences in cities around the world. Through managed hives, education, and hands-on programming, the partnership brings guests closer to the role pollinators play within an urban ecosystem.

For The Muse, the experience is about more than what happens inside the hive. It is an opportunity to find nature in an unexpected place and see New York from a new perspective.

Among the lights, buildings, and constant movement of Times Square, something quieter is at work above.

A Taste of New York, Made on the Rooftop

The rooftop honey tells its own story of the city.

As the bees forage throughout the surrounding landscape, the nectar available to them changes with the seasons. Spring blooms can create honey that is lighter and sweeter, while later harvests may take on a deeper color and richer flavor.

Each harvest becomes a reflection of what was blooming around New York at that particular moment.

It is local in the truest sense: made by bees living 19 floors above Times Square and shaped by the landscape around them.

Inside the Hive

The story continues downstairs at Little Opus. The Muse and Little Opus brought the hive experience a little closer.

A special hive-to-glass gathering invited guests to discover urban beekeeping through honey tastings, candle-making, conversations with an Alvéole beekeeper, and an up-close introduction to the bees.

The experience culminated in the reveal of one particularly important resident: the queen bee.

It was a chance to step away from the pace of Midtown and experience something rarely associated with Times Square: the simple pleasure of slowing down and getting closer to nature.

From morning coffee to evening cocktails, Little Opus brings the flavors of The Muse to the table. The rooftop honey finds its way into the morning café menu with the Honey Oat Cinnamon Latte, a seasonal specialty blending espresso, oat milk, honey, and warming cinnamon.

Harvested just floors above, the honey creates a natural connection between the rooftop hive and the guest experience below.

From hive to cup, it is a taste of The Muse that begins 19 floors above Times Square.

Why Urban Beekeeping Matters

New York may be defined by its skyline, but nature has always found its place within it.

Urban beehives can provide managed habitats for pollinators while creating opportunities for people to learn more about biodiversity and the ecosystems that exist within cities. At The Muse, the rooftop hive makes that connection tangible.

It also offers a reminder that sustainability does not always have to feel removed from the guest experience. Sometimes, it can be discovered through a taste of honey, a conversation with a beekeeper, or the realization that thousands of bees are quietly at work above one of the busiest neighborhoods in the world.
